The Unengaged
For Frontiers, the term ‘engaged’ means:
- > There is at least one team in residence among a people group - living in their neighbourhoods and serving in their context.
- > The team is committed to working in the local language and culture to bring honour and respect to the people.
- > They are committed to the people for the long haul, with the aim of seeing worshipping communities of Jesus followers gather.
There are currently 228 Muslim people groups with populations over 100,000 (some are millions) where this is still not the case i.e. UNENGAGED.
Unengaged v. Unreached
The term ‘unengaged’ differs from ‘unreached’, as a people group is engaged once a team is there (see above), but is still considered unreached until a viable fellowship of believers has formed which is able to reach out to their own people.
What’s the significance of ‘people groups’?
Generally speaking people are more likely to share their faith with others of their same culture and language i.e. ‘people group’. In most countries many people groups live alongside each other, but a fellowship existing in one of those people groups may not necessarily reach out to the other people groups around them.
As well as sending teams from outside to work with unengaged people groups, there are also efforts in some places to envision and equip these neighbouring believers to reach out cross-culturally in their own country.
Caleb Teams
2 to 3 weeks praying in-situ for an ‘unengaged people group’.
Could you help gather and lead a team for this essential ground work? Help discern God’s plans and purposes for the Gospel to take root amongst that people? Be warned though, God might stir you to be the answer to your own prayers!
