A DAY IN THE WORLD OF FRONTIERS

00:00 (GMT)
In South-East Asia, fifty women, all from a Muslim background, are meeting together to read the New Testament and to learn more about Jesus. Over the last few years, a Frontiers team member has prayed with each one of these women individually, asking them if they’d like to find out more about her faith. From small beginnings, the group has grown rapidly. Many women have become followers of Jesus and have started to spread the word with those around them.

In a small village in South-East Asia, a Frontiers team is rejoicing at all that God is doing amongst the Muslims there. Having invested years of their life learning the local language, becoming part of the community and praying for God to break through, the team are overwhelmed by what is happening. God has done more than they ever dared to imagine. Over half the village are now following Jesus and seeking to grow in their new found faith.

From his base in South Asia, Tim Lewis, International director of Frontiers, reports back from his recent visits to five of the regions in which we work. He says, “I have come away impressed by the commitment of our people to our common calling; apostolic spiritual communities who are serving on the edges of the kingdom, among unreached and least reached Muslim people groups. And, after many years of sowing, we are seeing evidence of movements beginning to grow in places where even just a few years ago, there seemed little hope of fruit. What a joy it has been to be able to celebrate with teams who are seeing the yeast of the kingdom successfully implanted into communities. And what an inspiration it has been to pray in faith with those still working to see the first effects of the gospel in other places.”

We are delighted to hear from one of our guys who’s been working in South Asia for 13 years. For the first 10 years, his team didn’t see any fruit from their work. Not one Muslim had responded. Many people came and went during this time but Josh continued to believe that the Lord wanted him to stay for as long as it would take; he kept pressing on. Three years ago, he first began to see local Muslims coming to follow Jesus. Today there are several fellowships of local Muslim background believers meeting together regularly.

Prayer training is being provided to a number of teams in Asia. The training is being led by several Frontiers workers who have made their main focus praying for the Muslim world from inside the Muslim world. This is prayer that is God-directed, faith-filled, worship-fuelled and focused on a city or people group, and is of course combined with ministry of the word (Acts 6:4). Both ministries (prayer and ministry of the word) need to function side-by-side. The workers give encouraging reports of answers to prayer as Muslims have been healed and have had visions of Jesus. Even when there is little evidence of fruit, focused prayer begins to break through and produces change in the heavenlies.

Teams from four different countries are meeting together for prayer, fellowship, teaching and refreshing. They’ve been reflecting on and rejoicing in all God has done over the last 20 years. A time in which: several thousand Muslims have come to faith; dozens of home fellowships have been planted; hundreds of national church planters have been trained; four Bible translations have allowed local people to read the Scriptures in their own language for the
first time.

The British ‘home’ team are following-up unprecedented numbers of people from several summer events who have expressed interest in serving overseas. Amazing to think God is calling out young Brits to start preparing for his work in some very challenging places. What a privilege! What greater adventure! Pray with us they stay true to the calling on their lives.

Breaking news from Central Asia: eight people working with a Christian organisation have been killed. Reports suggest that they’ve been murdered for living out their faith in a Muslim country. Despite the shock of the news reports, our workers in that region continue to hold firm in their faith, loving the Muslims around them with all that they have. A calling for which they would be prepared to pay the ultimate cost. Pray that the testimony of those taken will greatly impact this nation.

Four new Muslim background believers are baptised in West Africa. After months of asking questions, meeting with Frontiers team members and studying the Scriptures for themselves, these four young men are celebrating their new life in Jesus. There is sure to be a party among the believers in the village tonight! Join with us, and our workers in West Africa in praying that this may be multiplied and repeated across the region....
and throughout the Muslim world.

After what feels like a month of saying goodbye to friends and family across the UK, Alex (aged 27) is finishing off his packing before flying to the Middle East tomorrow morning. He’s given an initial two year commitment but fully intends to live and work amongst Muslims in the long-term. Alex will join a team of 5 other people, all living and working amongst one of the most unreached Muslim people groups on our planet. A day in his life is going to look very different from tomorrow
