Subject: Sixteen make commitment

“One thing we’ve learned during our time here is not to believe every story we are told. When I received a phone call from a young man in the project we’re working with, saying that there were sixteen people wanting to be baptised in his village, I was sceptical. However, two of the national leaders went down to the village to see what was happening there. They stayed for four days, teaching the people and eventually baptising all sixteen, drawing a large crowd of onlookers. This is without doubt the biggest such event to have occurred during our time here, and we hope for many more such events in the future.”

Subject: Local leaders growing

“We have been encouraged of late as to how the leaders of the fledgling church in our community are growing in their faith. Two weeks ago we got them together to prepare culturally relevant foundational teachings for new believers and groups. The depth and maturity of the discussion was a joy to experience. They are now working on identifying stories from Scripture that they can use to illustrate these themes (so important in an oral culture), and we will meet again to discuss this further. In the meantime the leaders have been busy visiting groups in the villages to encourage and teach them, already putting into practice what we discussed.”

Picture of a man from AfricaPlease pray for all our teams working in Africa.

Pray especially for the new believers and the emerging church leaders who are mentioned in these recent emails.Ask that they would grow in faith and maturity and would support and encourage one another as they come together as God’s people.

Pray too that as they visit the villages and share their faith, more will come
to know Jesus.
